When we were here we found small but nice shiny Galenit-xx (to 3 mm max and some also weathered with little Cerussit-xx on them) on Dolomit-xx (white to pink saddle-formed xls to 3 mm) together with little Herkimer Quarz-xx (waterclear xx to 3 mm, no organic or sulfidic inclusions), Pyrit-xx (sometimes nicely weathered to peacock colors on Dolomit-xx) and of course Calcit-xx (all small so to 1 cm, usually waterclear but without complex formes). But also Sphalerit-xx (yellowbrown translucent to 2 mm). Sphalerit coated with Galenit-xx. Markasit-xx (to 1 mm, partly coated with a black metallic material?). Pyrit-xx tightly intergrown with Sphalerit-xx. Chalkopyrit/Bornit-xx? Calcit-xx sprayed with micro-Pyrit-xx. Calcit-xx with nicely silvery-red Lepidokrokit grown on it and inside the Calcit-xx. Optically attractive are Lepidokrokit-xx in 'trees', intergrown with silvery globular aggregated Goethit-xx (!) on Calcit-xx.
(all max 2-3 mm xx, so all micromount material)

2007: a morning like every other mornings. sunny, cold, much to hope for but nothing to expect...

And then... Galenit-xx!

If you contact the quarry management in advance by telephone they give out permissions to enter the quarry... For insurance&security reasons you have to give them a legal statement (Enthaftungserklarung) in advance waving all of their liability. So... do not enter the quarry illegally, just give them a phone... : Hastenrather Kalkwerke Meyer, Albertstrasse 57a, Hastenrath, phone: 0049-2403-25076 oder 25077 in the weekends (fax: 0049-2403-36570).

Please note that we have nothing to do with mineralium.com. We collected in this quarry with permission of the quarry owner, and we do NOT sell minerals... See our philosophy.
